Appropriate Neo4j Version
April 30, 2023 update: v 5.6.0
Neo4j version management is important. When you set up a new DBMS server, you select the version it will use. It is important to pick the one that will work in the Graphs for Genealogists (GFG) ecosystem. Return to this page for updates as both Neo4j and GFG evolve.
GFG uses Neo4j v 5.x. This is a major upgrade and there are still a few glitches and idiosychacies.
CAUTION: You will be installing the Neo4j GDS Plugin and it is not always compatible with the lastest version of Neo4j. Before selecting the version of Neo4j, check here for the lastest version compatable with GDS.
Currently GFG uses v 5.6.0 even though the lastest version available is v 5.7.0. This is because, according to Neo4j, the latest edition of the Graph Data Science (GDS) is not compatable with v 5.7.0. This is true, but there is another glitch with GDS. At the present time, we cannot use both the GFG plugin and GDS because of a bug in the Neo4j configuration. While you will have GDS installed, it will not be fully operational at present. The impact is the inability of GFG to project virtual graphs and execute community detection algorithms. GFG is working with Neo4j to resolve this glitch.
